Obituary for Kenneth E. Hamilton

Kenneth was born the 2nd child to Corrine Lattis and Eugene Hamilton on November 11, 1930 in Louisville, Kentucky. As a child, he grew up in the Shawnee Park area of Louisville where he attended Christ the King Grade School and eventually attended Flaget High School, graduating as part of their first four year class. Ken was the younger brother of Robert, who is left to cherish his memory.

Ken was a man of deep character and devotion who was always steadfast in his love and support for his family. There was no greater love in his life though, than his forever bride, Nancy, who preceded him in death on July 3, 2012. Ken and Nancy married and settled down to raise six wonderful children: Glenn (Tammy), Robert, Patrick (Cathy), Mary Smither (Jason), Leah Raluy (Tony) and Timothy, all of whom survive him. As the years grew, so did Ken's family with the addition of ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren - Brooke, Lindsey (Deceased 1998), Courtney, Michael (Danielle), Matthew (Kaitlyn), Ellie, Patrick, Luke, Maggie, Cooper, Jack, Liam, Emmy, Ruby and Nolan.

In addition to devotion of his family, he also had a profound respect and admiration for his country, which he proudly served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army's 43rd Infantry in post-World War II Europe. Ken never hesitated to tell you how wonderful his country was and fearlessly flew the American flag in the front and back yardsof his house.

Ken was always an avid lover of nature and wildlife and seemed to find a sense of solace when surrounded by it. One could often find him eyeing the deer roaming in his backyard, spending time with his favorite sidekicks, Minnie and Pearl, or caring for the horses on his property. He was blessed with a green thumb and enjoyed caring for various plants and flowers at his house through the years.

As a dedicated servant of the Catholic faith, Ken was a longtime member of St. Louis Bertrand Parish. Up until his health no longer allowed him, he could routinely be found in the pews at early morning Sunday Mass there.
Ken was a legendary hard worker and continued to participate in the famlly business until his later years. To have Ken in your life, in whatever fashion, was a privilege. Simply put - life was better because he was in it.

Please join the family in celebrating the life of Ken and his legacy that remains. Visitation will be held at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd, Louisville, KY 40205 on Tuesday, July 26 beginning at 2 pm, with a short prayer service to follow at 7 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations be made to the Kentucky Humane Society, kyhumane.org.
