Obituary for Kristen Anne "Kristy" Wilkerson

Kristen “Kristy” Anne Wilkerson, age 39, of LaGrange, Kentucky passed away peacefully on February 28, 2024 at Baptist East Hospital surrounded by her family. Kristy was born in Louisville, Kentucky on February 17, 1985, daughter of the late David John Wilkerson and Lynn Henehan Wilkerson. She was a beloved resident at Cedar Lake.

Kristy’s smile, positive attitude and wicked sense of humor made her unforgettable. Some of the things that brought her joy were spending time with family, shopping, attending plays, games, cooking, crafting, celebrating holidays (especially dressing up for Halloween) and going out to eat. She excelled on several bowling teams with Special Olympics. Kristy had an incredible aptitude with technology including using her electric wheelchair, computers and her iPad. One of her lifelong loves was Disney- she took several trips to Disney World through out her life, where she would open and shut down the parks.

Family and friends were the core of her life. You knew you were in her inner circle if you got added to her “list” of people to call and/or FaceTime. She was always one to ask about your job, how your day was and wanted updates about your family. This selfless and loving attitude truly made us better people from knowing Kristy.

Kristy’s family wants to extend a warm thank you to the countless caretakers, therapists, aides and supporters throughout her life. They were instrumental in her success and brought immense happiness.

She was preceded in death by her father, David J. Wilkerson; her step-father, Charles Richard “Dick” Ross; her grandparents; and uncles, Joseph A. Henehan III, Brad M. Henehan, and Jack Sensenbrenner.

She is survived by her mother, Lynn H. Wilkerson; siblings: Adam G. Winters, Natalie W. Legel (Kurt), B. John Wilkerson (Mindy), and Cindy W. Brower; stepmother, Susan W. Wilkerson; nephews: Jackson Legel, Gavin and Levi Wilkerson, and Vincent Ott; nieces: Millie Legel, Savanah Wilkerson, and Luci Ott and several beloved aunts, uncles and cousins.

There will be a visitation at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, on Monday March 4th, 11 am - 1 pm, with a celebration of life service starting at 1pm. There will be a burial at Calvary Cemetery after.

In Lieu of Flowers, please make a contribution to Cedar Lake.
