Obituary for Fred Bennett

Lawrence F. Bennett (Fred) only child of H. H. and Margarea Dutschke Bennett died October 12, 2021 at the age of 84.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Wilma J Basham Bennett, his son, David L. Bennett, his daughter, Carol J. Bennett (Alan Constantian), and grandchildren Asa and Ani Constantian.

Fred was active at Harvey Browne Memorial Presbyterian Church for over 30 years serving as Elder, Clerk of Session, official "unofficial" photographer, Grocery Cart coordinator and numerous other unelected tasks. Always ready with a smile and a story, Fred also volunteered at the Gift Shop of Norton Hospital, St. Matthews Campus where he was known as the "Candy Man" for always making sure the shop's sweet supply was fully stocked. He received a WLKY Bell Award in 2019 for his volunteer work in the community.

Fred was a 50-year Mason and a member of Boaz-Masonic-Home Lodge #850 at his passing. He served several years on the old Masonic Widows' and Orphans' Home Board, St. Matthews Campus. Much of that time he served as Secretary of the Board.

Fred spent his entire working career with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers where he retired as Chief of the Economics section. He was a proud graduate of the University of Kentucky and an avid gardener.

A service celebrating Fred's life will be held at Harvey Browne Memorial Presbyterian Church on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at 11:00 a.m., with informal visitation starting at 10:30 a.m. Please note that masks are required.

Memorial gifts may be given to TWIGS of Norton Children's Hospital Foundation or Harvey Browne Memorial Presbyterian Church.
