Obituary for Lenora Maxine Schultheis (Bennett)
SCHULTHEIS, Lenora Maxine Bennett Sipes, 93, of Louisville, died at home on Thursday, September 1, 2022.
Lenora was born in Woodrow, Kentucky on December 22, 1928. She was the only child of Roy L. and Mattie (Fentress) Bennett. Although she spent most of her childhood in Breckenridge County, it was in Louisville where she met and married her husband LeRoy. They soon moved their young family to Decatur, Illinois, where they lived most of their married life. She worked for and retired from the Credit Department at Sears before moving to Taylorville, Illinois.
She was a longtime member of the Taylorville Church of the Nazarene, where she served on the Administrative Board, taught Sunday School, and volunteered at Vacation Bible School. She also volunteered for the Head Start program in Taylorville. She took many of the neighborhood children to church and loved that she was "Grandma Lennie" to Misty, Dustin, Nate, Misty, Haley, Seth, Maddison, Mackenzie, Chaz, Alana, Gage, Kylie, Courtney, Savannah, Colin, Harper, Nora, Lilly, Owen, Jesse/Kroush, Adalind, and Nicholas.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her sons Stephen Roy Sipes and Tony Franklin Sipes, her grandson Brian Anthony Sipes, and her granddaughter Andrea Elizabeth Schultheis.
She was the beloved mother of Gayle (William) Sherman of Louisville, Deborah Gilpin of Louisville, and William (Sylvia) of Macon, Illinois. Also surviving her are her grandchildren Jason Sipes and Tiffany Schultheis, great-granddaughters Penelope Smart and Emilee (Craig) Unser, and great, great grandson Callan Unser.
Visitation will be at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road on Saturday, September 10, 2022, from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. Her funeral will be at 12 p.m. with burial at Custer Cemetery in Garfield, Kentucky to follow.
