Obituary for Louis F. Korb, Jr.

Louis F. Korb Jr., 91, of Louisville, passed away at his home on December 26, 2021.

Louis was born on September 3, 1930, to Louis F. Korb Sr. and Ida May Kieferle Korb. He graduated from DuPont Manual High School (Class of 1947½) and the University of Louisville Speed School (1953), where he earned a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Louis met Carol Jane Comer while singing in the church choir, and they married in November of 1953. Louie greatly enjoyed figuring out how things worked and how to engineer a process to make it more efficient.

After graduating from Speed School, he worked as a project manager for Ward Engineering Co., eventually working up to Vice President; then becoming President before he retired with more than 60 years of service. He was a registered Professional Engineer; held memberships in many organizations, including the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Kentucky Sheet Metal Contractors Association, MCA of Kentucky, Audubon Baptist Church, and St. Matthews Baptist Church.

Lou was always moving. He enjoyed walking, traveling (especially to Mackinac Island where he could bike ride around the entire island), model trains, and driving his MG.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

Louis is survived by his brother-in-law, James Dennis “Denny” Comer (Peggy); nieces Claudia Comer Forbes (Kelly), Betsy Jo Comer Wesley (Nelson), Vicki Guirreri Cortelyou (Dan), and Cathi Guirreri; nephews David Comer (Connie) and Anthony Guirreri (Helen); and great-nieces and great-nephews Grant, Wyatt, Noah, Eva, Roman, Gracen, Megan, Shannon, Miles, and Dustin; great-greats Zoey, Beau, Blake, Cody, Jackson, Leo, Colton, and MaeLynn; former sister-in-law Carol Ann Nichols; and longtime friends and coworkers Barbara Cline and Janet Redeford. Louis’s family would like to give thanks to his loving caregivers Jennifer, Danielle, Mary, Mya, and Nurse Barbara.

Visitation will be Monday, January 3rd, 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, with the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Immediate burial will follow at Cave Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy be made to the Kentucky Humane Society.
