Obituary for Margie Ann White (Smith)

White, Margie Ann, 87, of Louisville, passed away on May 13, 2019. She was a daughter of Ralph Penn Smith and Bessie Ann (McCoy) Smith.

Margie was a 1949 graduate of Okolona High School, and attended the University of Louisville. She married Joseph Clarence White in 1950, and they were married for 65 years until his death in 2015. She had a successful career as a Realtor, working closely with her husband, a builder and Real Estate broker. Margie loved gardening, bowling, boating, fishing and following college basketball. But most of all, she loved gathering around the kitchen table with family and friends, for food, games and lively conversation. Known for her quick wit and somewhat dry humor, Margie (aka “Muz”), was an iconic and stalwart provider of love and support for her immediate and extended family and friends.

She is survived by two children, Joanne White Watson Gilley (Bryan), and Janet White Fendig (Albert); two grandchildren, Joseph Benjamin Watson (Katie), and Suzanne Elizabeth Watson; and two great grandchildren, Molly and Emily Watson. Margie is also survived by her sister Maryln Roades, and her brother Ralph (Buddy) Smith Jr., as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

The family would also like to recognize Margie’s caretakers, Gebreselassie Weldenigus (G), and Mariette Nsomvwa, for their loving and expert care. Margie embraced them as family and enjoyed their care as well as their friendship.

Margie’s funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 17, 2019 at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, with burial to follow in Floydsburg Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. on Thursday, and 12:30-2:00 p.m. Friday at Highlands.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Heart Association.
