Marjorie Mary Bonsall Zimmerman

Marjorie left for her heavenly home on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at Audubon Hospital.

Margie was born in Orange, Texas on January 20, 1929, to Ivy Joseph Bonsall and Oza Maynard Bonsall, where she was one of five children. She grew up speaking English and Cajun French (the only language of her mother). As a child of the Great Depression, Margie understood the importance of hard work. She began working at Jennings Hospital in Louisiana in 1945 at 16 years old, where she obtained her LPN. She was a Surgery and OB nurse until she left to marry Dale F. Zimmerman in Lake Charles, Louisiana in November 1951. Dale then moved her to his home in Louisville, Kentucky.

Margie has 3 children; daughters Monica Haysley (C.J.), and Therese Saflin, and son Frank. he has 3 grandchildren; SrCPO Stephen Saflin, Jr., USCG (MarQuett), Courtney Zimmerman, and Scott Creason (Melissa). She also has 3 great grandchildren; Ethan, Mason, and Sloan Saflin.

Margie retired at 65 from the ICU Unit at Methodist Evangelical Hospital in Louisville. She was a lifelong Christian who understood the power of prayer, and was a member of Wellman Memorial Wesleyan Church. Margie had many friends and was kind and loving to all. We especially want to offer our thanks for the friendship and care she received at the Altenheim.

Margie was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; daughter, Therese; and son, Frank. Visitation will be Thursday from 10 am -12 pm, with her service at 12pm at Highlands Funeral Home. She will be privately interred in Louisville Memorial Gardens West.
