Obituary for Marny Kay Miller (Vale)

Marny Kay (Vale) Miller passed away peacefully at Baptist Hospital Louisville on Monday,
October 17, 2022 at age 76 with her daughters by her side.

Marny was born on October 4, 1946 in Louisville, KY to the late Daniel and Marcelline
(Sommer) Vale.  She loved spending summers visiting relatives in Racine, WI and Syracuse,
NY, and helping out in her parents’ photography studios, Crawford Studios. She graduated from Fern Creek High School in 1965, and worked for Blue Cross/Blue Shield, and Baptist Hospital East before taking on her most treasured role in life, that of mother to her beloved daughters, Angela Doyle (Marcus), and Alison “Ali” Miller. She also relished in what she called being the “Kool-Aid mom” to her girl’s friends and was very active in their schools’ PTAs, even winning awards for her volunteerism.

When her daughters became older, she worked for many years at Parkway Medical Center where she was loved by visitors, residents, and coworkers alike for her compassionate, cheerful demeanor and unremitting humor. Shortly before she retired, she jumped at the opportunity to spend her days off caring for her cherished grandchildren, Kieran and Katherine Doyle.

Aside from her family, Marny’s passion in life was cooking. She loved sharing her meticulously
crafted, and strictly-guarded recipes with loved ones. She had an effervescent personality, a
ceaselessly generous heart, was an avid animal-lover, and adored endless conversations about everything and nothing. She never met a stranger, opened her heart to everyone she encountered, and was quick with a joyous smile and incredible hug.

In addition to her daughters and grandchildren, Marny is also survived by her husband of 52
years, Dennis Miller, brother, James “Doc” Vale (Sandra), her nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as the innumerable people whose lives she touched as a “second mother.” She also leaves behind her newly reconnected birth son, David Gower (Vikki) whom she never stopped loving, as well as his children, April and Ella. Aside from her parents, whom she adored, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Daniel “Danny” Vale.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 23, 2022, from 1:00 - 6:00 pm, with a funeral service at 2:00 pm on Monday, held at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road.
