Obituary for Martin A. Holland

Martin A. Holland, 90, passed away on Monday, June 12th, with his family by his side. He was born in Louisville on September 16th, 1932, the son of the late Martin J. and Ethel Holland.

Marty was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Janet A. Holland.

He is survived by his daughters, Lynn Russell and Delores Riedling (Craig); son, Steven Holland (Karen); eleven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Marty was a member of the pioneer class of Bellarmine College, 1950, where he earned a degree in business administration. He was also a member of the Knights baseball team. While attending college, Marty also served in the U.S. Army at Fort Bragg.

Marty applied his business degree to his work in the transportation industry; primarily with OK Trucking Company. He was a member of the Transportation Club of Louisville, the Bellarmine Alumni Association, as well as a volunteer in numerous capacities at St. Pius X / John Paul II Catholic Church.

He enjoyed golfing, league bowling, woodworking and spending time with his friends, especially “The Friday Night Group.”

Marty was a loving and loyal husband to his wife, Janet, and a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His sense of humor, warm heart and outgoing personality will be missed. Marty was truly a man who never met a stranger.

Visitation will be 4:00 pm – 8:00 on Thursday, June 15th, at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road.
His funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am on Friday, June 16th, at St. John Paul II Catholic Church, 3521 Goldsmith Lane. A private family burial will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Wayside Christian Mission or St. Vincent DePaul.
