Mary Kathryn (Kay), 94, went to her Heavenly Home Thursday, September 29, 2011
Kay was born on November 21, 1916 to the late Edgar and Lucy Cross in Susie, KY. She was one of 13 children.
Although she spent most of her life as a homemaker, Kay had the distinction of being one of many “Rosie the Riveters” who served her country during WWII building aircraft for Curtis-Wright. She was a retired clerk at the old Bacon’s Department Store. Kay was of Baptist faith and longtime member of Lyndon Baptist Church.
Kay was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, V.R. (Brownie) Brown; son, Bruce; daughter, Susan K. and her six brothers and six sisters.
She is survived by her daughters, Mary Elaine Hujo and Sally D. Clark (Jerry), son, Terry Huffaker (Phyllis); 5 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Cross, two brothers-in-law, Roger Powell and James A. Brown; many nieces and nephews, and loving caregiver, Emma Diggs.
Her funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 7, 2011 at Highlands Family-Owned Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd. with burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6:00 -8:00 p.m. Thursday at Highlands.
