Obituary for Mary Alice Cockerel (Stewart)
Mary A. Cockerel, age 97, of Louisville, passed away Friday, April 22, 2022. She was a homemaker and married to Edward Cockerel for 65 years until his passing in 2008. She was a member of Highview Baptist Church.
She was born in Leitchfield, Kentucky to Henry and Leona Stewart. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Elva Vincent, and brothers Russell Stewart and Ransom Stewart, daughter-in-law Jeannie Cockerel and daughter Shirley Cockerel.
She is survived by her sister, Oressa Lampton; sons Allen Cockerel and Mike (Pam) Cockerel; daughters Jean (Charles) RePass, Joan (Joseph) Shamp, Alice Cockerel and Benita (Marcian) Herbert; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 28 from 4-8 p.m. at Highlands Family-Owned Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, Louisville. Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 29 at Highlands, with burial after the service at Mount Vernon Cemetery in Leitchfield, KY.
