Obituary for Michael DeGrella

DeGrella, Michael, 75, of Louisville, died Friday, Feb. 26,2021 at his home.

Born in Louisville, Michael was a U.S. army veteran, attended Our Lady of Lourdes and St. Margaret Mary Catholic schools and was a graduate of Trinity High School. He retired as a produce broker and co-owner of DeGrella Packing Co. He owned thoroughbred racehorses and cherished many years at Churchill Downs. He was an avid UK fan. Michael was also an active member of St. Boniface Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Etta DeGrella; and siblings, Andrew DeGrella, Steven DeGrella, Marietta DeGrella Bowman, and Debbie DeGrella Bischoff.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Sharon Schreiber DeGrella; his daughter, Heather DeGrella Bender; brother, Charles DeGrella (Kate-dec.); sister, Sharon DeGrella DeWitt (Mickey); brother-in-law, Charlie Bischoff; many nieces and nephews; his dog, Churchill; and his granddaughters, Isabel “Izzy” Dean Bender and Hadley “Haddie” Kate Bender.

His funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at St. Boniface, 531 E. Liberty Street, with burial to follow in Resthaven. Visitation will be from 4-6 PM Wednesday at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd. (Masks and social distancing required please)
