Obituary for Michael Lee Jones
Michael Lee “Micky” Jones, 75, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2019.
A native of Madisonville, KY, he was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran and a painting contractor.
Mike married the love of his life, Shirley Ann Hunter on December 26, 1964 and described their life together as a wonderful, fascinating journey filled with a powerful love. Mike and his wife started HYR, a children’s recreational sports program. Together they coached and administered the program for eight years. He continued to impact the youth of Louisville as a Scout leader for many years. In 2009 Mike made history as the first cardiac stem cell infusion recipient, receiving his own stem cells to improve cardiac functioning.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Audie and Doris (Martin) Jones; his precious wife of 53 years, Shirley Ann Hunter Jones and his sister, Barby.
He is survived by his son, Michael Lee Jones, Jr.; daughter, Barby Ann Jones Mills (David); sister, Becky (Ritchie); brothers, Jay (Retha), Mark (Nancy), Timmy (Kathy), Tony (Phyllis) and Charlie (Doris) and grandchildren, Micky and Mandi Mills.
His funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 11, 2019 with burial in KY Veterans Cemetery, Ratcliff, KY.
Visitation will be from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville
