Obituary for Michael Lee Jones Jr.

Michael Lee Jones Jr was born January 10, 1966, in Owensboro, KY passed away peacefully in his sleep March 28, 2022.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents Mike and Shirley Jones, his Mammie Mary Dutton, Uncle Curt, Aunt Barby, Uncle Timmy, and his grandparents.

Mike graduated HS from Youth Performing Arts School where he studied acting, and then moved to California to pursue his career in acting. After many years, a few commercials, game shows, talk shows and a stent on a soap opera, Mike returned to Louisville. He worked at UPS at night and finished his master’s degree in teaching. He worked a few years as a substitute teacher. Mike found his calling at Lowe’s, selling Lowe’s credit cards. Mike broke every store record and went on to be number 1 in the country for Lowe’s.

Mike’s passion was acting. He stole the show playing Jamie Boone in Legend of Daniel Boone in Harrodsburg, KY and in Lincoln, young Abe and Lt Chandler. He was in many plays throughout his acting career, Our Town, Peck’s Bad Boy, Glass Menagerie, The Coward, Dracula, and many more in Louisville and Los Angeles. He was a John Wayne and Elvis Presley fan. He lived his life holding no grudges, loving everyone, and his faith.

Growing up, Mike was the all-American kid, sports, scouts, friends, but most of all he loved his family. Mike had the biggest heart and the kindest smile. After 56 years, he still had the same kind smile and still loved bigger than life. Mike was always the overprotective big brother and was his sister’s number one fan.

Mike leaves behind his loving sister Barby Mills (David); nephew and niece, Micky and Mandi Mills; close friends, Dwayne and Brandon; many uncles, aunts and cousins. Mike also leaves behind his Lowe’s family and friends.

“I hope I have done nothing to offend anyone, and if I did, it was certainly unintentional. And if I have brought some joy to your life, and you think of me sometimes when you are sad, then my purpose has been fulfilled. Goodnight and God Bless.” – Red Skelton
