Obituary for Michael David Power

Michael David Power, 49, a renowned Louisville business leader and philanthropist, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2021, in his Prospect home.

Born to Mike and Faye Power in 1971, David spent his entire life in the city he cherished. After graduating from Trinity High School, David earned his BSBA in Marketing and International Business from the University of Louisville, where he was an active member of the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity.

Though his first position at The Power Agency was sweeping floors in the photography studio, he rose through the ranks to the level of Chief Executive Officer. Under his leadership, the agency became an early adopter of groundbreaking technology and services.

David understood and appreciated the significance of our community and continually contributed to its cultural, economic and civic development for nearly two decades. The value of giving back was instilled in him at an early age. And throughout his life, he helped change his community for the good via philanthropy, sponsorship and investments.

David was a highly sought-after leader, serving on multiple Boards of Directors, including Kids’ Cancer Alliance, Olmsted Parks Conservancy and the Speed Art Museum – often simultaneously. His guidance and insight helped these organizations achieve significant business and civic goals.

In addition to his involvement in community organizations, David’s influence was also distinct in the academic world. He was a longtime donor and supporter of the University of Louisville and UofL Athletics.

He was also a major supporter of Trinity High School and has established a scholarship in his name to provide complete annual tuition for one student in each grade level.

David is survived by his husband, Bruce Hardy.

Visitation will be 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, July 27, at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 28, at Christ Church United Methodist, 4614 Brownsboro Road.

Burial will take place at Cave Hill Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy can be directed to the Kids Cancer Alliance at kidscanceralliance.org.
