Obituary for Nancy Anne Barkley (Edds)

On the morning of January 14th 2021, Nancy E. Barkley (82), of Louisville KY entered into eternal rest.
Born in Seneca Falls, NY on Easter Sunday April 17th 1938 to Nan and Bill Edds, the oldest of 4 children.
Nancy graduated from Phoenix Central School, Valedictorian of her class in 1956.
She then went onto graduate from SUNY in Albany, 1960 where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Arts.
She married Ronald H. Barkley on July 23rd 1960 and moved to Kentucky where she briefly taught English at Southern High School. Nancy was an active member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church where she was Director of Children’s Ministries, co-creator of CHOW with Roy Webster, a Wednesday meal and ministry which still continues to this day.
She was a seminary student at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, She served as Executive Director and Program Director at Camp Kavanaugh a Methodist retreat.
When she retired she enjoyed working at Dees Crafts in St. Matthews. Nancy also volunteered at the Fern Creek food pantry, and enjoyed getting her hands dirty in the memorial gardens at church under Jerry’s supervision.
She was a wonderful, loving wife, mother, sister, and the best grandma ever! She will be greatly missed. Nancy was adventurous and creative. She loved life, her faith, nature, gardening, learning new thing’s, and people.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years Ronald H. Barkley.
Survived by a son, Ken Barkley (Mary), daughter Kathy Barkley, granddaughter Olivia Barkley, sister Betty Lamson, brothers Jim and Don Edds, and several nieces and nephews.
