Obituary

Norman Lawrence Brotzge, Sr., passed away December 31, 2018. He was 97. Born on March 13, 1921 in Louisville, he was the son of Carl and Birdie Brotzge. He grew up in the West End, the grandson of a tailor and a shop owner. The family of 6 boys moved to Redbud Hill in Fern Creek in 1935. As a teen, he and his brothers worked the farm, and he played football at Fern Creek High. After being drafted into the army during WWII, he married Dolores Hayes. He served in Trinidad until 1945, when he attended Georgetown College. He worked for Dupont, Western Auto and lastly, at Durkee’s Famous Foods as a lab technician. After retiring, he and Dolores moved to Florida for 12 years, but spent their remaining years in Louisville. Norman drove to work at his son/grandson’s business, Professional Plumbing, Inc., rented two booths at Peddlers Mall, and went ballroom dancing weekly up to the last month of his life. He was a member of the Buechelites and Moose Clubs. He enjoyed golf and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dolores; grandson, Patrick Clancy, and brothers, Charles, Raymond and Carroll.
He is survived by his two brothers, James and Harry (Carol); three children, Kay Clancy (Ed), Larry Brotzge (Shelly), and Sharon Milian (Bill); 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2019 at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd.
His funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Highlands with final resting place at Resthaven Memorial Park.
