Obituary for Paul E. Wirth

Paul E. Wirth, 96, went to Heaven on October 4, 2021. Paul lost his beloved wife of 62 years, Lila, just four months prior.

Born in Hodgenville, KY, Paul was the youngest of four siblings of Jesse and Nellie Wirth. Paul attended the University of Louisville with a major in Accounting, but his true passion was starting and operating a family business, which he did until his death.

Paul was a decorated U.S. Army veteran, having served honorably in World War II. He served as a sniper, survived five major battles including the Battle of the Bulge, and once provided security detail for Sir Winston Churchill and Gen. George Patton. Paul and his family traveled to Normandy to participate in both the 70th and 75th D-Day Remembrance Celebrations, where he met Presidents Obama and Trump, respectively. During his 2019 visit, he was pinned with the Legion of Honour medal, the highest military honor in the country, by the President of France, Emmanuel Macron. Paul was a proud American and true patriot that loved his country, and honored and respected the flag and everything for which it stands.

Paul was a longtime member of Southeast Christian Church, and was in the 2x2 ABF class. He enjoyed storytelling, hunting, fishing, building campfires, growing his renowned tomatoes, collecting antiques, and traveling near and abroad.

There was a handwritten note in a Bible that Paul and Lila had gifted his mother in 1959, which stated that Paul had committed his life to Christ and was baptized on January 5, 1936. Paul was a follower of Jesus Christ and a patriot, who loved his family and cherished his friendships.

Paul is survived by his daughters, Kim Fox (Dennen) and Lisa Wirth (Glenn); grandchildren, Nicole, Ryan (Olivia), Makenzie, and Alexandria; and great-grandson, Dennen.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00pm on Friday, October 15, 2021, at Chapel in the Woods, 1407 Moser Rd, followed by interment in Cave Hill Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be at Chapel in the Woods from 10:00am until the time of service.

Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Southeast Christian Church or to Bob Russell Ministries at bobrussell.org.

Paul’s fun-loving spirit and outgoing personality was infectious to all. We love and will miss you, and there will never be another like our Paul, our Dad, our Papaw.
