Obituary for Philip Edward Strohmeier, Sr.

Philip Edward Strohmeier Sr. passed away on March 24, 2024, at the age of 90 in Louisville, Kentucky at The Springs Stony Brook Nursing Home with his family at his side.

Philip was born at his childhood home on Grand Avenue in Jeffersontown, Kentucky on June 21, 1933. He was born the youngest of seven children to Freda Weber Strohmeier and Frederick W. Strohmeier. He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters - Ruth S. Jordan, Elva S. Williams, Doris. S. Collins, and brothers - Robert J. Strohmeier, Charles Weber Strohmeier, and Fred W. Strohmeier.

Philip was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church and previously a deacon at both Meadowview Presbyterian Church and Harvey Browne Presbyterian Church. Philip attended Jeffersontown Elementary. He completed three years at Jeffersontown High School then went on to graduate with the first class of Eastern High School in 1951. Philip proudly attended the University of Kentucky where he graduated in 1956 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. While at UK, he was also a member of Tau Beta Pi and Pi Tau Sigma Honorary Fraternities. He then served in the Army Chemical Corp. from 1956 to 1958, working on special projects while stationed in Colorado and Arkansas.

Philip retired from the Mechanical Contracting Industry in 1989. He was Past Secretary – Treasurer of the former F.W. Strohmeier Company – Mechanical Contractors, a company that he co-owned with his brother Weber Strohmeier. Philip was a proud member of the Old Pipefitters Local #522, Plumbers Local #107 and to current Pipefitters Local #502.

Philip was a lifelong resident of Jeffersontown and Hikes Point. He always cherished his memories of growing up in Jeffersontown on Grand Avenue. He often said there was just enough country and city in Jeffersontown for a young boy to have a wonderful childhood in the 1930’s and 40’s. Throughout his life, he enjoyed family gatherings, the outdoors, yard work, watching UK sports, and playing golf.

He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 65 years, Linda Lee Strohmeier; and his 5 children – Laura Strohmeier Simons, Philip E. Strohmeier Jr. (Sherry), David Strohmeier, Daniel Strohmeier (Julie), and Joan Strohmeier Strafer.
