Obituary for Pierce Anthony Walker

Pierce Anthony Walker, 22, passed away on June 3, 2023. He was born on August 1, 2000, in Louisville, Kentucky, the son of Lee and Susan Walker and brother of Nina Walker. Pierce was a beautiful baby boy with a gentle demeanor and light in his eyes. Pierce was surrounded by love, which he readily returned. By 18 months he was driving his miniature “hot-truck” (fire truck) from room to room in his St. Matthews home; he never bumped a door frame. At three, he moved to Glen Oaks Neighborhood. He had an idyllic boyhood. His “office” was the garage, where many of his adventures began. On any given day, you could pull in the driveway and see Pierce getting his mini car out, playing basketball, or in the backyard with a group of friends.

Pierce was an athlete and his competitive nature and drive quickly developed. Depending on the season, he played golf, football, basketball, swimming and snow-skied, always playing to win. He was a talented runner, beginning with the Goshen Elementary Cross Country Team, where his Dad was the Head Coach. He ran Track and XC at North Oldham Middle School, where he held the school record in the 800M, until this year. He finished 2nd in the State that same year, in the same event. Pierce would ride his bike to the pool, where he spent countless summer days in the water. He was a member of the Triton Swim Club at Blairwood. When he grew a bit older, he was one of the G.O.B.S. (“Glen Oaks Boys of Summer”). These boys had FUN, and whispers of their escapades both reassured and alarmed the neighbors.

Pierce’s mischievous tendencies continued into high school, where he occasionally found himself in detention. He attended St. Xavier High School and graduated in 2019. During his four years he was a member of the Cross Country and Track and Field Teams, as well as the Freshman and Senior Football Team. He became the #1 High Jumper on the team his Sr. Yr., having never competed in the event, until his Jr. Yr. He was quick-witted and fearless, quickly changing from a boy to a man.
Pierce attended the University of Kentucky in the fall of 2019. A proud member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, he was always the life of the party. As a sophomore, he set his sights on success, leaving college to work full-time with ECP Solutions. This led him on the adventure of a lifetime, living briefly in Costa Rica, then a year in Miami, ultimately returning to Lexington. As he matured, his devotion expanded to include countless sales calls, meetings, and close deals. Pierce’s job fed his entrepreneurial soul. He was committed to mentoring other young men so they too, could experience success.

Pierce was an extraordinary Day-Maker---he had good days, and amazing days. Some of those days included hard work and discipline, some of those days were nights filled with music and dancing. Whether Pierce was Deep Sea Spear Fishing in Costa Rica; riding his motorcycle in Miami; working on his uncle’s farm; hanging out with his dog Bear; skiing in Wyoming and Colorado; surfing in California; hiking in Big Sky Montana, getting a meaningful tattoo or motivating himself and others at the gym. Pierce was all-in.
Pierce loved his people. Born with a refined pallet, he relished a good meal with family and friends or his special someone. He was charismatic, funny, thoughtful, intelligent, determined, sensitive and incredibly passionate. To know him was to love him. He will always be remembered for his big smile and laugh and the fun he brought to the world.

Pierce was preceded in death by Melissa Walker (paternal aunt), Christopher Smith (maternal uncle), Scott and Margaret Smith (maternal grandparents).

Left to cherish Pierce’s Memory are his Parents, Lee and Susan Walker; Sister, Nina Walker; maternal aunts, Margo Smith and Sandy Duerr (Patrick); cousins Julia Barefoot, Elizabeth and Lauren Duerr; paternal uncle Allen Walker (Andrea); cousins Emily and Will Walker; paternal uncle Taylor Walker; cousins Quin and Lochlain Walker; paternal grandparents, Donnie and Joyce Ann Walker; Godmothers Marian Brooks and Abigail Rennekamp and his German Shepherd-Husky, Bear.
