Richard W. “Dick” Sharpe, 80 of Louisville died Saturday, September 8, 2018 at the Hosparus unit of Norton Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 43 years Gloria “Bea” Sharpe. Dick, fully Norwegian, was born in Cooperstown, ND on February 25, 1938 to William and Freda Sharpe. Dick attended North Dakota State University (NDSU) where he got involved in Kappa Psi fraternity. There he met Bea and they got married upon his graduation. Dick became a registered pharmacist in the state of Kansas after which he enlisted in the U. S. Air Force as a first lieutenant and received an honorable discharge after 3 years of service. In 1965 Dick and Bea headed to Mitchell, South Dakota where Dick worked for White Drug and where they started their family by adopting first Kris in 1966 and then Elizabeth in 1968. They made the move to Omaha, Nebraska where Dick became Assistant Chief pharmacist and began his career at the VA hospital moving up to Chief Pharmacist in 1975 in Lincoln, Nebraska and Chief Pharmacist in 1977 in his final move to Louisville, KY. In addition to being a loving husband and wonderful father and grandfather, Dick was an avid golfer and a passionate musician. He played trombone his whole life and he gained wonderful relationships and many friends in the music scene, playing in many bands, eventually forming his own all-trombone band, the Derbytown Bones. Dick celebrated life and treasured his family and friends. All who knew him enjoyed his wonderful humor, quick wit and intelligence. Mr. Sharpe is survived by his children, Kris Sharpe (Michelle), Elizabeth Bizianes (Chris); sisters Judy Neubauer (Dave) and Joyce Gerard (Bill); grandchildren Alex Bizianes, Katherine Bizianes, Kristofer Sharpe and Emily Swatzyna. Dick is also survived by Betsy Bugg with whom he enjoyed a loving relationship for the past 15 years. His Memorial Visitation will be Friday, September 14th from 2PM to 8PM at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd. His Memorial Service will be on Saturday September 15th, at Walnut Street Baptist Church, 1143 S 3rd Street, at 11 AM. Expressions of Sympathy can be made to the American Cancer Society.
