Obituary for Robert J. Graven

Robert J. Graven, 92, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 3, 2024.

Bob was born in Louisville KY on June 29, 1931, to the late Clyde A. Graven and Marguerite L. Graven. He was the youngest of seven children and he loved to share stories about growing up with brothers and sisters that he cherished.

Bob was a graduate of St. Benedict Grade School, Flaget High School and Bellarmine College - Associate Degree. Bob left a lasting impression on everyone that he met. He was a kind friend, a faithful Catholic and a loyal husband and father. He was a member of St. Michael Church for 20 years.

Bob was a veteran of the Korean War where he served in Japan from 1953-54 as a sergeant in the Army Signal Corps. He had a 28 year career at Joseph E Seagrams, culminating as Assistant Traffic Manager and retired in 1983 upon the plant closing.

Bob married his high school sweetheart, Mary B. Tross (2022), in 1954, and they shared 68 wonderful years together. Mary was the love of his life, and he shared stories of their lives and his love for her until the day he died.

He is survived by their three children: Gary (Linda), Kenny (Laura) and Sharon Vandrick (Bill); grandchildren, Mike (Sarah), Will (Breanna) and Tommy Graven, Ben (Brittany) and Bobby Graven (fiancee, Elizabeth), Joe (Nancy) Vandrick and Jackie (Chad) King; and his great-grandchildren Alma and Ellie Vandrick and Benjamin King.

Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary; his six brothers and sisters; and his grandson, Braxton Graven.

Bob’s visitation will be Tuesday, March 12th, from 9:00 am-11:00 am at St. Michael Catholic Church, 3705 Stone Lakes Drive, 40299. His funeral Mass will be held at the church at 11:00 am, with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
