Obituary for Robert Keith Spears

Robert Keith Spears, 70, passed away in his home in Louisville from cardiac arrest on May 20, 2022.

He was born July 23, 1951, to Jean and Russell Spears, the second of three children. When he was a small child, his family moved from Paintsville, KY to Columbus, OH, where he grew up and became a devoted fan of The Ohio State University. He attended Franklin Heights High School and played football. He then went to Georgetown, Ky., College, where he also played football and majored in history and P.E. He then taught school in Bullitt and Oldham Counties and coached various sports. After acquiring two Masters' degrees from U of L, he served in administration as a principal in both Shelby and Jefferson Counties. He retired from Our Lady of Peace Academy in 2016.

Along with his wife, Marsha, he was a member of Beargrass Christian Church in Louisville. Robert served as a volunteer for Hosparus after his retirement.

Preceded in death by his parents and older sister, Pamela, he is survived by his wife and younger brother, Rusty, who still resides in Columbus. Robert also leaves behind two children; a son, Andy (TN), with his wife (Courtney) and daughter, (Sterling); and Erin, a daughter (Louisville) and her 3 children (Sadie, Eli and Brody). He also has two stepsons, Philip and Aaron.

Robert was often referred to as a "gentle giant," due to his imposing stature as well as a kind demeanor.

Visitation will begin on Sunday, June 5, 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm and Monday, June 6, 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm, at Highlands Funeral Home on Taylorsville Rd, with the memorial service at 5:30 pm.
