Obituary for Robert Joseph Tilton

Robert Joseph Tilton, 82, passed away suddenly on Monday, August 5, 2019. Born November 9, 1936 in Lexington, Kentucky, son of the late James and Barbara Tilton. He graduated from Danville High School, Danville, Kentucky on May, 27, 1955. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving July 5, 1955 – June 23, 1958. Retired from General Electric, Evendale, Ohio on March 1, 1991. He enjoyed the Cincinnati Reds baseball team, University of Kentucky Mens Basketball, and the Cincinnati Bengals. He enjoyed betting on horses and loved the Kentucky Derby. He loved fishing and was instrumental in having the shelter built and the lake stocked at Waverly Park, Louisville, Kentucky.

He is preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Jane (O’Bryan) Tilton, son-in-law Edward Strong and granddaughter Tara Tilton. He is survived by his brother James Tilton and 3 step-sisters, Barbara, Carol and Maria. Also, his 7 children, Robin (Edward) Strong, Susanna (Richard) Hufnagel, Joseph (Jennifer) Tilton, Stephen (Sandra) Tilton, Christopher Tilton, Katie (Joe) Kempe and Daniel Tilton. 25 Grandchildren, Amanda (Craig) Shutts, Thomas (Christina) George, Jennifer (Matthew) Terrell, Laura (Jeffrey Vories) George, Brendan (Jordan) Strong, Tyler Hufnagel, Jacob (Nicole) Hufnagel, Samuel Hufnagel, Abby (Josh Biery) Tilton, Dottie Tilton, Owen Tilton, Tallie Tilton; Lexis Tilton, Shawn Tilton, Summer Tilton, Joey Kempe, Kelsey (Eric Stamper) Kempe, Corey Kempe, Bradey Kempe, Lindsey Kempe, Phenley Kempe, Halley Kempe, Michael Tilton and Alyssa Tilton. 18 Great Grandchildren, Dylan Schutts, Kyleigh Shutts, Leland Shutts, Jacob George, Allyson George, Riley Terrell, Sophie Surharski, Shelby George, Mila Vories, Oakley Vories, Lillith Strong, Dixon Strong, Kenley Hufnagel, Ensley Biery, Sadie Tilton, Saylor Tilton, and Jasper Stamper.

Visitation will be Saturday, August 17, 2019 from 12 - 4pm at Highlands Funeral Home 3331 Taylorsville Road. Memorial service will be at 2pm. For those that wish, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Foundation. https://www.kentuckywildlife.com
