Obituary for Robert Anthony "Wally" Walsburger

Robert Anthony Walsburger (Wally), 86, passed away peacefully on May 21st, 2022. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Rosemary (Zimmerman); his daughters, Kim Iseley (fiance, Brian Grade), Beth Sartori (Paul), Anne Kelly (David); son, Anthony Walsburger (Denise); and twin sister, Joan Doughten. He cherished and was deeply loved by his 11 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.

Robert graduated from St. X High School in 1953, and received his civil engineering degree from the University of Kentucky in 1957. He served in the United States National Guard 138th artillery. He worked his entire career as a civil engineer, employed by the Kentucky Department of Transportation, H.E. Rudy Consulting Engineers, and HDR Engineers.

He played a key role in the design and construction of many Kentucky interstate highways. From 1982 - 1988, he was the Assistant KY State Highway Engineer for construction in Frankfort. He was a member of the Kentucky Society of Professional Engineers and served as President from 1980 - 1981. In 2010, he was an inductee into the Kentucky Transportation Hall of Fame and received the University of Kentucky College of Civil Engineering Achievement Award.

Although his accomplishments were many, he most loved spending time with family and friends, and was an avid golfer, enjoying his membership at Midland Trail Golf Club.

His visitation will be held on Thursday, May 26th, 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm, at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, May 27th, 10:00 am, at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, 1395 Girard Drive, with burial to follow in St. Mary's Navilleton Catholic Cemetery in Floyds Knobs, IN.
