Obituary for Roy L. SHULER

Roy Lee Schuler | Visit Guest Book SHULER, ROY LEE, 83, passed away peacefully at Springhurst Health and Rehabilitation May 7, 2010.
Born in Los Angeles, CA, he returned to his parents' native city of Louisville at the age of 2. Roy attended Southern Junior High and DuPont Manual High School, class of 1943 ½.
Upon graduation, he was inducted into the Army and served in Germany in the tank destroyer division under General George Patton. He received the Bronze Star and Good Conduct medal for his service to his country.
On his return to civilian life, he attended U of L and worked for Louisville Fence Company. In 1967, he founded his own company, Valley Fence Co. and served as it's president until 1995 when he retired due to illness.
Roy was on the board of the Association of General Contractors and was a member of Oxmoor Country Club and Woodhaven Country Club.
Roy was a cherished friend to all who knew him and helped many with his good advice and more. He loved his golf and their home in Florida where they spent their winters with many visitors where they welcomed all who came. He and his wife, LaVerne, loved to travel and visited many countries.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Lucy Shuler; brother, Clyde Shuler; and sister, Ruby Botkins.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, LaVerne (Priestle) Shuler and loving children, David (Debbie), Mark (Cathy) and Nancy (Keith) Hall; three grandchildren, Jason Shuler (Kristin), Michael Shuler and Connery Hall; two great-grandchildren, Alexandra and Benjamin Shuler.
Visitation will be from 3- 6 p.m. Sunday at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road. A private interment and service will be held the following day.
