Obituary for Ruth Craig Schell

Ruth Craig Schell, 93, passed away on April 1, 2023. She was born on November 13, 1929, in Belleville, Illinois, the daughter of Leslie Bruce Craig and Ruth Craig.

Ruth was known as Munchkin, or Momma/Mamma by those who knew and loved her. She was a natural nurturer and mother. Children often flocked to her; nicknaming her Ms. Mom.

Ruth put others before herself. Even when she was lying in a hospital bed, a minister asked if she had any special requests for a prayer …She replied, “ Yes, for God to send help to all the ‘little people’ (children) that needed someone to take care of them”

She loved holidays, family gatherings and enjoyed making people laugh. Ruth was creative, crafty, a jack of all trades and would say she was master of none, but she was multi-talented and a master of many crafts. She was a DIYer before the term was coined.

Ruth will be missed by her family, loved ones, and friends. She had a heart of GOLD and now has her angel wings.

She was preceded in death by her parents Leslie Bruce Craig and Ruth Craig, her siblings, Bonnie Craig and Buddy Craig.

Left to cherish her memory are her children Bonnie Graves (Don Graves, deceased), Lee Schell (Theresa L.), Theresa C. Schell (Windell), Lisa Schell-Harris (Bob). Myra Singer (cousin). Grandchildren: Zachary Schell, Craig Tinal, Christopher Tinal, Jennifer Schell Aldridge, Briscoe Schell-Nasby and four Great-grandchildren. Billy Graham (cherished family friend). Digger her furry grand-doggy.

Visitation will be Friday, April 7th from 2PM - 8PM with the funeral on Saturday, April 8th, 12:00 (noon) at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, Louisville KY. Burial will follow at Cave Hill Cemetery.

The family would like to especially thank Hospice, the nursing staff, each helping hand, every caring word that brought comfort, laughter and love to our Mom. A very special thank you to Dr. William Haney and staff for all the wonderful care you have given our mom throughout the years.
