For the longest time, I called Kay, "my friend Kelly's mom." Until recently, I realized how silly that sounds because Kay was my friend too, in fact, one of the best friends I think I'll ever have. I adored every moment I spent with Kay, and she felt like family the moment I met her. I will forever cherish our wine nights, book clubs, long talks about back home and Eastern Kentucky, and fun adventures. I didn't get long enough, and that feels very unfair. The past few days before Kay died, I kept repeating to myself, "just stay with me a little longer." I hoped if I said it over and over all day long that it would make it happen. I'm glad we did get a sweet goodbye, I needed that. Even though my time with Kay and her husband, Randy, were short, they made a tremendous impact on my life. I hope with the years that I have left that I'm as funny and thoughtful as Kay and as confident and intelligent as Randy. My extended family. Thank you for the lovely memories.
