When it comes to Sandy Clarks, this Sandy Clark was the Sandy Clark to know! Sandy came into this world on May 29th, 1944 and as legend has it, was almost too hot to handle with her rambunctious spirit. She was born in Louisville but moved with her family to Bisbee, AZ when she was only two. After a couple years out there, her family returned to Louisville where she attended St. Agnes and Presentation Academy. While at Pres, she won the prestigious honor of being the St. X Homecoming Queen her senior year, a perfect fit for someone with both beauty and brains.
On July 10th, 1966, Sandy’s life would change forever. In the parking lot of St. Raphael church, a fellow by the name of Mickey Clark approached her after mass and asked, “Don’t I know you from somewhere?” (definitely not knowing her from anywhere). She immediately clapped back “No you do not!” but the door was open and Mickey was able to charm her into telling him where she would be hanging out later that evening. After meeting her at a bar, he and his friend were invited by Sandy and her friend to a house party. Mickey pulled out his guitar, started singing Gordon Lightfoot songs and Sandy was hooked - the rest is history. They ended up getting married in New York City on March 29, 1969.
Life with Mickey took her all over the country as he chased his musical dreams. They lived in New York City and Nashville a number of years before moving back to Louisville in the mid-70s. Her experiences were priceless. From picking up Steve Martin to play banjo at a house party, to getting drunk with Jimmy Buffet on the beach, to befriending Gordon Lightfoot, Jerry Jeff Walker, Townes Van Zandt, and Billy Joe Shaver – she and Mickey lived.
Mickey continued his music career from Louisville and Sandy found her niche as mechanic and sales rep for Xerox. After fifteen years of marriage, their lives would change again as Sandy became pregnant at 40 and gave birth to their son, Brennan, their “Late Arrival.”
From then on, Sandy, Mickey and Brennan lived happy lives, all pursuing different artistic endeavors. Sandy was incredibly creative in so many ways and that creativity was reflected in all she did. Sandy left this world on Oct. 31, peacefully in her sleep with family by her side. We are all lucky to have known this Sandy Clark and we will miss her dearly.
The visitation will take place on Monday November 7th at Highland Funeral Home from 10am – 1:30pm followed by the funeral service at 1:30pm. The burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
