Obituary for Sandra Helene Garner (Morrison)

Garner, Sandra Helene Morrison, 84 of Louisville, KY passed away on Friday, September 24th.

She was born on August 24, 1937, in El Paso, Texas and enrolled in Texas Western College (UTEP) where she majored in geology and played the flute in the El Paso symphony. While attending Texas Western University she met Bobby Lynn Garner. They married in 1958, through Bobby’s position at General Electric, moved to Louisville in 1960.

Sandra later earned her Masters of Arts at Spalding University. She was proud to have taught mathematics in JCPS for nearly 40 years impacting the lives of many who she loved seeing in the Louisville community and hearing about their lives.

Sandra loved all animals and successfully rescued countless dogs and cats throughout her life. Her philanthropy included supporting many local shelters and animal services.

Sandra is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Bobby Lynn Garner. She is survived by her three children, Charles Garner (Jody), and Katherine Nowak (Tim), Laura Stevens and five grandchildren; Dale, Emma, Charlize, Garner and Theodore and three great grand children.

Her hobbies included traveling with her family, playing tennis and working in her garden. She loves all thing Louisville Cardinals, hosting basketball and football parties often. She was also a voracious reader and was a regular at the Highland Shelby Park Louisville Public Library.

A celebration of her life will be held at Highland Presbyterian Church, 1011 Cherokee Road on Monday October 11th at 5:00-7:00 pm.
