Obituary for Sherman D. Harris

Sherman D. Harris, 91, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 12th 2024.

Born in Edmonton KY, on February 18th, 1932, he was a Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict, a member Crescent Hill Baptist church, an owner of Convenient Food Marts and a Kentucky Colonel. He was also a master Mason and member of Scottish Rite Temple.

As a member of the Kosair Temple, he and his wife, Lou, were active in Kosair and their charities for many years. Some of Sherman’s time was spent fundraising and serving in the Transportation Unit where he was once director; and in the Greetings Unit, where he was president in 2003.

Sherman was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lou; daughter, Betty; and sister, Mary Graff Drummond.
He is survived by a daughter, Peggy Harris Combs (John); and son, Terry Harris (Sarah); his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Megan Martin (gg Layla and Khloe); Nicki Avery (Billy)(gg Alyssa and Taylor); Lindsey Beliles (Blake) (gg Blakely and Beau); Whitney Cothren (Phillip) (gg Claire and Kate); Jason Harris (Becky) (gg Asia, Jaelyn, and Brooklyn); and Darron Harris (gg Austin and Dixie).

He is also survived by his sisters and brothers, Glenda, Garon, Sandy, and Zane; and his dear friend, Mary Cook.

The family also like to thank his home caregivers, Hyacinth and Nena, for all their love and care for Dad; along the wonderful care from the staff at Nazareth Home Clifton; and Hosparus for their excellent help.

Visitation will be Thursday, February 15th 2024, 1:00 pm - 8:00 pm, at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road. His funeral service will be held at 12:30 pm on Friday, February 16th, also at Highlands. Burial will follow at Cave Hill Cemetery.
