Obituary for Shirley Ann Ehrler (Miller)

Shirley Miller Ehrler, 90, of Louisville, passed away March 19, 2021, after a long, full life. She was born to Charles and Louise Miller on June 25, 1930, in Louisville, Kentucky. Shirley graduated from Ursuline Academy in 1948.

Shirley was married for 71 years to the love of her life, Mike Ehrler, and in her words, “We were lucky to have such a good life.” She enjoyed cooking, traveling with their family and friends, hot air ballooning, and watching Louisville Cardinal games. Shirley was the Balloon Crew Chief for Mike for many years, participating in balloon competitions across the country and around the world. She was a wonderful cook. For decades, she enjoyed taking cooking classes to the great pleasure of her family and friends.

Shirley was happiest when surrounded by her family. Her face always lit up when one of her grandchildren or great grandchildren came into the room. The whole family looked forward to the annual multi-generational family vacation hosted by Gram and Pap.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Ron Miller, and her son, Mikie.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Mike, her six children: Sharon (Don) Des Jarlais, Chuck Ehrler, Jeannene (Ted) Fizer, Steve (Dawne) Ehrler, Denise (Kevin) McCoy, and Robin (Kevin) Roberts, her 15 grandchildren and her 18 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings Jim (Barb) Miller and Pat (Mick) Egan and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass for Shirley will be held at St. Agnes Church, 1920 Newburg Road on Thursday morning at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that you honor Shirley with a donation to Hosparus Health or The Center for Women and Families. Visitation will be private.
