Higgins, Suzanne Hamberry
Our Mother passed away peacefully, surrounded by her greatest passion and accomplishment, her family, at her home on March 9, 2022. She was 86 years old.
Suzanne was born on October 17, 1935, in Louisville, KY. She was the daughter of the late Loretta Moll and James P. Hamberry. She grew up in the Highlands and attended St. James Grade School, is a Graduate of Sacred Heart Academy and attended the University of Louisville.
She was a dedicated civic servant who volunteered her time and talents, serving St. Vincent DePaul, St Raphael's Sarafun and Meals on Wheels. She was a woman of deep faith whose true passion was spending time with her family, especially her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. You could find her most summer weekends on Nolin Lake with her family, anchored at Conoloway Cove, traveling to her many favorite destinations, cheering on her ‘Teams’ the Louisville Cardinals & Dallas Cowboys and making people smile.
She was also preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 57 years, David Higgins and sister Patricia Hamberry Shryock.
Suzanne is survived by her six children, Lynn Vasiljevich (Tom), John Higgins (Tanya), Michael Higgins (Lynn), Matthew Higgins (Christine Hofmans), Kathy Leah (Joe), and Patrick Higgins (Linda); her 19 grandchildren, Alexis Vasiljevich and Claire Frankenberg (Reid), James, Connor and Tori Higgins, Nolan, Stewart (Erin), Marissa and Matthew Higgins, Kellie Shell (Tyler), Jilian and Logan Higgins (Blain), her former daughter-in-law, Kim Garvey Higgins, Captain Army Reserve Joseph, Suzanne, Army First Lieutenant David (Kennedy), Daniel and Michael Leah, Maxwell and Samantha Higgins; and her 3 great-grandchildren, Caleb Higgins, Kai and Lilah Shell; her many nieces and nephews and her sweet canine companion, Kona.
The funeral Mass celebrating her life will be held at St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church, 2141 Lancashire Avenue, Louisville, KY 40205, on Monday, March 14 at 10 am. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Louisville. Visitation will be from 2-7 p.m. Sunday, March 13 at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, 40205.
