Obituary for Tasso Schmidgall

SCHMIDGALL, Tasso

89, passed away February 16, 2022.

He was born in Chicago, Illinois. He was the son of the late Rudolf Schmidgall and Martha Neuhaus Schmidgall. He was a member of the 1951 graduating class of South Haven High School in South Haven, MI and the 1957 graduating class of University of Michigan.

He married June Kirkpatrick in 1958, and subsequently relocated with her to Vicksburg, MS. From there, they moved to Tulsa, OK in 1961, Little Rock, AR in 1964, and Dallas, TX in 1969. He moved to Louisville, KY in 2001, where he was a faithful member of Second Church of Christ Scientist.

He was an avid woodworker who maintained a lifelong interest in furniture and household construction projects and was a longtime volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. He remained active in his churches and participated in faith-based activities throughout his life.

He is preceded in death by his wife, June Kirkpatrick Schmidgall; parents; brother, Rolf Schmidgall; sister, Margaret Mischnick; and daughter, Patricia Lynne Schmidgall.

He is survived by his loving daughters, Karen Nelson and Barbara McCarthy (John); grandchildren, Amanda McCarthy Byrd (Roy) and Sean McCarthy; many nieces and nephews; and his feline companion, Gracie.

A memorial service to honor his life will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 26 at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until time of service Saturday.
