Obituary for Virginia L. "Gin" Schindler (Gittings)

Virginia Lee “Gin” Schindler, 91, of Louisville, passed away on July 2, 2022. Gin was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She retired from Bunton Seed Company as a Floral Designer. While she was living at Dominion Senior Living, she loved to play Bingo and was quite good at winning.

Gin was larger than life in that she loved to have a good time. Her infectious laugh and feisty spirit were part of what we loved so much about her. We were so blessed by her love of family. Gin was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and she will be missed by all who loved her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Schindler, Sr.; her son, Kenneth “Bugsy” Schindler, Jr.; her father, Bert Gittings; her mother, Helen Feger Gittings; three brothers, Bert Gittings, Ed Gittings, Irvine Gittings; and two sisters, Barbara “Sis” Texas, and Aline Trommler.

She is survived by her daughter, Vicky Heil-Carpenter (Walt); her sons, Bert Schindler, Jerry Schindler, and Kevin Schindler (Denise); and 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 7th, from 2pm to 6pm at Highlands Family-Owned Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road. Her celebration of life service will be held after the visitation at 6pm. She will be cremated and buried at a later date at KY Veterans Cemetery Central in Radcliff, KY.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Idlewild Butterfly Farm, 1100 Logan Street, Louisville, KY 40204.
