Walter Douglas, 78, of Louisville, passed away Saturday, February 27, 2021.
Born in Louisville, he was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam Era and a retired JCPS vocational teacher. Walter was a true outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and planting trees for the Arbor Day Foundation.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge and Southeast Christian Church. He enjoyed ballroom dancing, restoring homes, and beekeeping. Walter liked fixing things, and never cut a corner; he was very particular and detailed. Walter was a family man -- a beloved father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Carol Ernestine Miller Douglas; parents, Walter William Douglas and Mary Lee Cunningham Douglas; and niece, Maria Palmer.
Walter is survived by his children, Bryon Douglas and Tracy Douglas Yurt (Gary); sister, Patty Davis; grandchildren, Gary “Kevin” Yurt, Jr., Justin Edward Yurt, and Meredith Jane Yurt; and niece and nephew, Karen Brown and Roger Brown.
His funeral service will be Saturday, March 6th, 11:00 a.m., at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, Louisville, Kentucky, with burial to follow in Valley of Rest Cemetery, LaGrange, Kentucky.
Visitation will be Friday, 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., and Saturday, 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
