Obituary for William Hurst Engle

Engle, William H., 74, died peacefully in his sleep at home in Louisville, Kentucky on Wednesday, July 17th 2019. Born in Blue Diamond, Ky to William G. and Kathleen Hurst Engle on January 13th 1945 before moving to Louisville, Ky as a child. He graduated Seneca High School in 1962 before attending Centre College and the University of Louisville, graduating from their School of Business. He applied his Accounting skills during his work life at Brown and Williamson Tobacco in the 1970s before transitioning to the Service Bureau for Doctors. This paved the path to when he acquired Medical Dental Business Consultants (1992 – present) and co-founded Professional Practice Advisors (2001 – present) with his son, Bill Jr; where he provided tax, accounting and practice management services at the time of his passing, His success as a businessman is evidenced by the many lifelong and loyal clients he counted as some of his best friends. He was a member of the National Association of Health Care Consultants and National Society of Accountants. Bill “Sr” not only worked hard but he also played hard and was fiercely loyal and protective of his family, friends, clients and neighborhood. He developed his love of cars and competitive driving as a child, racing at the Ohio Valley Raceway and managing the Tompkinsville drag strip as a young man followed by Autocross and Road Racing at locations throughout the United States, building deep and lasting friendships that endured both the distance and the decades. While he attained numerous victories and podiums throughout his amateur racing career, including a podium finish at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway during the inaugural vintage races in 2014; it was the time spent with loved ones and the friendships made he valued most. He introduced his family and friends to the sport and was known for helping them, as well as competitors; fix their cars, loan them tools or even his cars, for them to compete. He is a Past President of the Kentucky Region Porsche Club of America as well as the Kentucky Region Sports Car Club of America, serving multiple terms and posts within each organization. He was recognized Marksman, enjoyed bowling and photography. He was a loving and devoted father who is now reunited with his beloved aforementioned parents and son, Thomas “Grant”, along with other dearly departed loved ones and friends who preceded him in death. He is survived, and will be deeply missed, by his son, William “Bill Jr” and daughter-in-law, Jacquelynn “Jackie” Engle; Linda Engle (mother of Bill Jr), Dean Skiles (nephew), Hershey (grand-puppy) and a wealth of family, dearly loved friends, loyal clients and wonderful neighbors. If an alternative is preferred in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of the donor’s choice or to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of his mother, Kathleen. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 22nd 2019 from 1-8pm and the morning of Tuesday July 23rd 2019 at 10am until the Funeral Service at 1pm at Highlands Funeral Home (3331 Taylorsville Rd, Louisville, KY 40205) with burial immediately following at Resthaven Memorial Park (4400 Bardstown Rd, Louisville, KY 40218).
