Obituary for William L. "Bill" Morgan

William (Bill) Lendell Morgan, 94, died Monday, May 1 in Louisville after a brief illness. He was born on August 30, 1928 in Glasgow, Kentucky to the late Mattie Raeburn Williams and William Henry Morgan, the 10th of 11 children. He graduated from Hiseville High School and began his career at the A&P Tea Company store located on the Glasgow town square before joining the Navy in 1950. He proudly served 4 years aboard the destroyer U.S.S. Harlan R. Dickson during the Korean War and traveled throughout the world. Upon his honorable discharge and return home from service, he moved to Louisville, and continued his work with A&P, rising to Store Manager. While at A&P, he met and married the love of his life, Anna Pauline Carney and together they raised 4 daughters. After A&P closed its stores in Kentucky, Bill worked in direct sales for Sam’s Club in Louisville. He retired from Sam’s Club at the age of 70 in 1998. He was a member of Southeast Christian Church.

Bill is known for his hard work and love of family. He was a good husband, father, grandfather, brother, son-in-law, father-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle, friend and neighbor. He was always there for us. Throughout his life, he kept us amused and laughing with his quick wit, joke telling, funny stories and rhymes. He loved to garden, had a passion for tomatoes, and continued his learning through reading and travel throughout his life.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Pauline (Polly), his parents, 4 brothers and 5 sisters. Bill is survived by his daughters, Phyllis Moreman (Lucian), Paula McCorkle, Linda Morgan (Jeffrey Dugan), Vicki Rode (Edward); sister, Joyce Martin; 6 grandchildren; Cary Howell, Shannon Holt (John), Kevin Moreman (Kasey), Sarah Proctor, Shelby Rode, Hayden Rode (Kaitlyn Yu); 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 8, 2023 at 12:00 PM followed by burial in the Kentucky Veterans Central Cemetery in Radcliff, Kentucky.

Visitation will be Sunday evening, May 7, 2023, from 5:00 - 8:00 PM and on Monday, May 8, 2023 beginning at 11:00 AM.
