Obituary for Dorothy M Ray

RAY, Dorothy Ann McHugh, 78, of Louisville, passed away on Friday, May 1, 2015 at the Nazareth Home.
She was born in Louisville on June 24, 1936 to the late Dorothy Kaelin and William A. McHugh, Sr. and was a 1954 graduate of Presentation Academy. She went on to receive degrees from Nazareth School of Nursing St. Joseph’s Infimary (1957) and Spalding College (1972). She worked as a nurse in Louisville then moved to Frankfort where she worked for the state Dept. of Education as Director of the Health Sciences Vocational education program. Later, she also became the State Advisor for the KY chapter of HOSA- Health Occupation Students of America. During school and at work, Dorothy made countless life-long friends, including “The Frivolous” at Presentation, with whom she remained close until her death.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Ray.
Dorothy is survived by 2 sisters, Marilyn Hohmann and Sara Hastings (Robert) both of Louisville; 2 brothers, Col. Thomas B. McHugh of Dayton, Ohio and William A. McHugh, Jr. (Kathleen) of Atlanta Georgia; and many loving nieces and nephews, to whom she was a second mother.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 am on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at St. Louis Bertrand Catholic Church, 1104 S. 6th St., with burial to follow in Frankfort Cemetery in Frankfort, KY. Visitation will be from4-8 pm on Wednesday at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road.
The family would like to thank Dr. Jane Cornett and the staff of the Nazareth Home for their compassionate care of Dorothy during the last two years.
