Obituary for William Hutchison

William Hutchison
HUTCHISON, William C., “Bill”, Jr., Chaplain, 87, of Louisville, passed away peacefully in his sleep. He returned to his Heavenly Home on Thursday, November 5, 2015.
Bill was born on April 14, 1928 to the late William C. and Mary Shively Hutchison. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was a KY Colonel, member of Captasa, supporter of the Healing Place, and a friend of Bill W. & Lois. He had been sober 48 miraculous years, once speaking at the Vatican about recovery. He and his wife founded the Bagdad Conference. He met his sweetheart when she was 13 and they were together ever after. They traveled the world and had been to over 135 foreign countries. He loved young people. He and his wife took teenagers on mission trips all over the world and had pen pals all over the world.
A member of the Hosta Club, attending Hosta College every year, former member of the Friendship Force, and charter member of the Louisville Miniature Club. He restored antique dolls, carved wooden animals, and made miniature furniture. He helped build the Sportsdrome; a member of ASHRAE and RSES, there is hardly a large building, hotel, hospital, or grocery store that has not had his HVACR input. He never met a stranger, and lived to help others.
Bill was preceded in death by too many friends to count, but he especially missed his first sponsor and his wife, Charlie R. and Sweets.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Janette M. Tankersley Hutchison; daughter, Barbara Jean Hutchison (John Stewart); and son, William C. Hutchison, III.
Bill’s funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, with burial to follow in Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8pm on Tuesday and 9-11am Wednesday at Highlands Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Youth Ministry of his beloved church, St. Matthews Baptist Church, or Botanica of Louisville.
