Obituary for Evelyn Blevens

Evelyn Blevens
Blevens, Evelyn, 90, of Louisville passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2016. She was the former Evelyn Thomas, a retired administrative assistant for U of L.
Evelyn, aka “Gram” to her grandchildren, will be remembered by her family and friends for her fiery, dichotomous spirit - sweet and spitfire, stubborn and open-minded, funny and serious, opinionated and supportive. She achieved that for which we should all strive – to feel life fully, be it heartache, anger, pride, or love. Love, the most. She was adored (and her family will admit, lovingly mocked) for her quirks – her dislike of water, taking pills, and sub-par Manhattans - and admired for her general smarts and particular savvy in regard to the games of Spoons and Bridge. Evelyn’s good humor and quick wit could always be counted on for a hearty laugh, a good-natured jab, and frequent displays of her beautiful smile. She was known to sing and hum to herself when she thought no one was around … but her sweet voice did not go unnoticed, and will not soon be forgotten. Evelyn’s family wishes to send her off to the next life with words written to her by her then soon-to-be-husband Bert in her 1944 yearbook: “All my love to you Evelyn. You will always mean everything to me.”
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Robert P. and Jennie L. Thomas; daughter, Lynn B. Ruth; and sister, Elizabeth Hayes. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Bertram Blevens; son, Kim Blevens (Vicki); daughter, Beth Blandford (George); grandchildren, Devon and Spencer Blandford, Gwen, Eric and Kyle Blevens, Alicia Laubheimer (Tony), and Michael W. Ruth; great-grandchildren, Kali Laubheimer and Michael Ruth.
Her memorial visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday, September 23, 2016 at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd. Her graveside service will take place Saturday at 11 a.m. at Cave Hill Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
