Obituary for Dorothy McTighe

McTIGHE, DOROTHY J. “DOT”, 103, died peacefully on October 8, 2016 at Nazareth Home. She was born on April 17, 1913 and was the only child of John William and Mary Vacca Sullivan.

She married James “Jimmie” McTighe in 1940 and he preceded her in death in 1958. She graduated from Angela Mercy High School and attended Nazareth College and Sullivan Business College. After her husband’s death, she held several jobs, including working many years for the Louisville Housing and Urban Development Commission. Dorothy was always ready for new adventures. When she was in her 70s, she rode her moped everywhere. In her retirement, she traveled to Italy and Hawaii and learned to make kaleidoscopes, cane chairs, use a computer and play the dulcimer. She was proud to be named a lifetime member of the Louisville Dulcimer Society. Dorothy loved all animals and her pets included dogs, cats and a parrot. She had belonged to several Louisville parishes, including Saint William, Christ the King and Saint Pius.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her son, John, in 2005. She is survived by her son, Mike McTighe (Carolyn) of Cumming, GA.; two granddaughters: Laura McTighe (Kate Bulthuis) of Arlington Heights, IL. and Beth Schmelzer (Robert) of Alpharetta, GA.; two great-grandchildren: Alston and Caroline Schmelzer, also of Alpharetta; a daughter-in-law, Judy Harden of Louisville and a sister-in-law, Justina McTighe of Louisville.
