Obituary for Lawrence F. Olliges Jr.

LAWRENCE F. OLLIGES, JR. 90, of Louisville, Kentucky, was born November 6, 1924, and passed from this earth surrounded by loving family June 29, 2015.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence F. Sr. and Anita Olliges, sister, Betty Olliges Cheeseman, and nephew from Washington state, Michael Olliges.

Lawrence, or Larry as he was known to friends and family, was a veteran of World War II, where he worked as a machinist. After the war, he had a long career with Southern Gravure in Louisville, Kentucky, as a master photoengraver. After retirement, he played the trumpet with the Holy Name Band for years, and loved to travel with his wife of 64 years, Rose Reherman Olliges, along with friends from his longtime association with St. Martha’s Senior Club. He was also a member of St. Barnabas Golden Key Club. As a fine woodworker, he made many beautiful wood pieces for family through the years. His attention to detail was evident in all he did, including his love of family.

Larry is survived by his wife, Rose (Reherman) Olliges; four children, James (Kathleen), Bruce (Donna), Sharon Bell (Bob), and Brian (Stacy); eight grandchildren; Jimmy, Megan (Todd), Jennifer (Lupe), Michael, Benjamin, Bobby, Erika and Isabel. He also took great joy in his five great grandchildren, Chloe, Lucero, Tula, Silas, and Luke. He is also survived by his brother, James J. Olliges (Judy) of Tacoma, Washington, and his children.

His funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday at St. Martha Catholic Church, 2825 Klondike Lane with burial in Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2:30 p.m. – 7 p.m. Thursday at Highlands Family Owned Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road with a prayer vigil at 4 p.m.

Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Louisville Chapter, 153 Thierman Lane, Louisville, KY. 40207 or Mass of the Air.

He lived a long and loyal life to God, family, country and work. He will be missed.
