Obituary for Albert Charles "A.C." Leonhardt

LEONHARDT, Albert Charles “A.C” “Cootie”, 83, returned to his Heavenly Father on July 1, 2012 after an extended hospitalization. Born in Louisville, he was a U.S. Army veteran, a retired restaurateur, and real estate agent. A.C. was a member of the Belmont Athletic Club, American Turners, 11th Frame Club at Thelmal Lanes, active in Alumni Association at Male High School & the University of Louisville, and was a member of the Sarafun Club at St. Raphael. A.C. lead an active life filled with bowling, softball, basketball and baseball. In recent years, he enjoyed the companionship of many old friends from high school, college, and the neighborhood. A.C. enjoyed attending his children’s and grandchildren’s many athletic, dance, theatrical, equestrian and social activities. He was always their #1 fan and supporter. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Lillian Leonhardt, and beloved wife, Cleo Leonhardt. A.C. is survived by his sons, Greg Leonhardt (Patty) and Rusty Leonhardt (Jill); daughter, Mary Kay Niemann (Rob); brother, Larry Leonhardt (Jan); sister, Bobbye Jean McCarthy (Bill); brother-in-law, Gabe Crawford (Mary); sister-in-law, Geneva Richardson; 11 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. His funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 6 at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, with burial following in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Thursday and from 12 noon until 2:00 p.m. on Friday. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Suburban Hospital 4th floor & ICU staffs, and Hillcreek Orthopedic Rehab Staff. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Heart Association, or American Diabetes Association.
