Obituary for Ben Johnson

JOHNSON, Ben J., 88, of Louisville, passed away Friday, November 25, 2011 at Baptist Hospital East.
He was an Eagle Scout, an Army Air Corp veteran of WWII, during which time he was a B25 Navigator in the Pacific and earned his pilot’s license shortly after the war. He was a graduate of Purdue University and a Civil Engineer for the B&O/C&O/CSX Railroads. After retiring from the railroad, he traveled extensively as a consultant with The World Bank. He was an Elder Emeritus at Beargrass Christian Church and taught 5th grade Sunday school for several decades.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Lelia Sargent Johnson.
He is survived by daughters Lynn Johnson and Mary-Keith Brown (Art); 3 granchildren, Ben Sandusky (Rebekah), Lara O’Neil, and Brian Sandusky (Jamie); 3 great-grandchildren, Anna, Lilli and Ava O’Neil; sister-in-law, Ann Northcutt (Ernest); and nieces Terry Northcutt (Arthur) and Leeann Stiles (Mack).
Visitation will be Tuesday from 10 until time of service at 1:30 p.m., at Highlands Family-Owned Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, with burial to follow in Cave Hill Cemetery.
