Obituary for Benjamin F. MORGAN

., 86, passed away March 28, 2010.
He was the retired CEO of Dairyman Incorporated. He was born in Suffolk, VA and moved to Louisville when he became CEO of Dairyman Incorporated.
He was a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Economics and Dairy Marketing and received a master's degree in Agricultural Economics from VPI.
He wrote the first master's thesis in Virginia on Dairy Marketing. He served during World War II and was a pilot in the Navy Air Corps., was an associate professor at Virginia Polytechnic and taught Agricultural Economics. He organized and became general manger of the Tri-State Milk Producers Association in Virginia, Tennessee and West Virginia and became manager of the Southeast Milk Sales Association when the Tri-State Milk Producers merged with Carolina Milk producers. He became general manager and director of Marketing of Southeast Milk Sales when they merged into Dairymen Incorporated, along with four other Southeast milk marketing cooperatives. He was very instrumental in this merger.
He was chairman of the board of directors and member of the executive committee of the National Council of Farmer Cooperatives, a member of the board of directors and executive committee of the National Milk Producers Federation, was second vice president and member of the board of directors of the Southern Association of Dairy Food Manufacturers, was a member of the board of directors of the former Liberty National Bank & Trust Company, was a member of the board of directors of the Milk Industry Foundation, was a member of the board of directors of the Associated Industries of Kentucky and a member of the Hursbourne Country Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin F. Morgan Sr. and Pattie Morgan (Gill); son, Billy Morgan; brother, Gene A. Morgan; and sister, Effie Morgan.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Betty Morgan; brother, F. Gill Morgan (Adelle) of Suffolk, VA; daughter, Lyn Buck (Ray), of Austin, TX; son, Robert B. Morgan (Darlene); goddaughter, Rainy and her sons, Caleb, Hunter, Jacob, Shane and Vincent; beloved sister-in-law, Dee Sullivan; and his beloved pal, Max.
The family would like to express its deep appreciation and thanks to the team of caregivers, Allan, Ashley, Cheryl, Heather, Kathy, Lana, Megan, Michy, Roslind, Spomenka, Trenea and Vicki, the staff of Oakland Senior Care facility and all those who blessed us with their thoughts and prayers.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at noon Wednesday at Highlands Funeral Home, with visitation from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and burial in Cave Hill Cemetery.
