Obituary for Bettye Anne Leis

LEIS, BETTYE ANNE, of Louisville, died Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at Baptist Hospital East.
She was the former Betty McNary. Bettye has gone to prepare a place for us with our Lord Jesus. Her grace and unbounded love blessed all who knew her. Her life was full as her indomitable spirit conquered countless adversities that would have stopped others who were not as strong. Her faith in God lifted her and empowered her to do amazing things. That is Bettye's legacy to all who knew her, and her gift to her family who can draw on her grace and resolve to make a positive contribution in this life and leave this world better than it was.
Her spirit will never die - the torch will be carried by her husband of 54 years, Larry; her children, Susan, Marc (Yumiko) and Jay (Ana Maria); her adored grandchildren, Joseph, Joy, Benjamin and Nicolas; and her loving brother, Bob McNary; and lifelong best friend, Brenda Koch.
In her youth she was quite an athlete, a tomboy in many ways as she outplayed all the boys, but it showed her determination to be the best that she could be. In middle age, in between her travels all over the world with Larry for his business and the American Institute of Architects, Bettye was a champion bowler, a water color artist and she made many ceramic pieces and loved to cook and garden for family and friends. She was a member of Southeast Christian Church. Bettye's family wishes to express their undying gratitude to the many friends, caregivers and doctors at Baptist Hospital East Coronary Care Unit and the palliative care unit for their support and loving care throughout her final trip to be with God.
Her funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, with burial in Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2 8 p.m. and Monday from 4 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Salvation Army of Louisville.
