Obituary for Carl William Liebert Sr.

Liebert, Carl William, Sr., passed away quietly, Wednesday, August 22, 2012, one month after celebrating his 100th birthday. He was a longtime member of Ascension Catholic Church. Born in St. Matthews, Kentucky, the son of Henry R. and Rose M. Liebert on July 17, 1912. He was a graduate of DuPont Manual High School, where he was an outstanding athlete and continued with a lifetime interest in sports.
His outstanding forty-six year career with the Kroger Grocery Co. began at age 19, as a clerk and advanced through the ranks to retire as zone manager, a position he held from 1957 until his retirement in 1977. He remained active in the Kroger’s Retiree Club until age ninety-nine.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Thelma Maloy Liebert and his brother, Henry F. Liebert and sister, Elfreida M. Liebert.
He is survived by his sister, Mary Elizabeth Gensle; son, Carl W. Liebert Jr., M.D. (Kathie Hultman), four grandchildren, Carl w. Liebert III (Christine Fox), Elizabeth Liebert Bohn (John), Andrew Hultman Liebert, Kathryn Conlin Liebert and two great-grandchildren, Linnea` Elizabeth Liebert and Chrisitan Maloy Liebert.
His Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Ascension Catholic Church, 4600 Lynnbrook Dr. with entombment at Resthaven Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 2:00 -7:00 p.m. Friday at Highlands Family-Owned Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd.
