Obituary for David Paul Meers

David Paul Meers, Sr., of Louisville, passed away peacefully at his home, Saturday, July 19, 2014; just ten days shy of his 83rd birthday.

Paul was born in Hart Co., Ky. to the late John T. Sr. and Frances Shaw Meers. He graduated from University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy and was a member of the UK Alumni Association and loved his Wildcats. Paul served as medic and pharmacist in the US Army. He was pharmacist and manager of the Hikes Point Walgreens for over 35 years before opening his own pharmacies, Union Prescription Centers.

His passion was aviation! He was a pilot and owned many aircraft through the years. He was founder of Glendale Flying Club and owner of All American Air, Inc.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Aileen Dietz; and a brother, John T. Meers, Jr.

Paul is survived by his wife, L. Roxanna “Roxy” Scott Meers; daughters, Leigh Meers and Cheryl Lynn Williams (Roger); son, David P. Meers, Jr.; stepson, Nick Cicero (Marta); 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Rev. Harold G. Meers (Shirley) and Ret. Col. Boyce Meers (Eva); and sister, Phyllis Eckerle. Fondly known as Poppy or Pablo, he had many people that loved him including Ray Sweeney (Judy) who was like a brother to him; Josh Littmath and Ashlee Terry who loved him like a father; and dear friends Bob “Mac” McDonald and Barry Rice.

The funeral will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday, July 23rd with Rev. Harold G. Meers officiating, at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, with burial to follow in the Magnolia (Ky.) Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 pm on Tuesday at Highlands.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to Buffalo Baptist Church, 2530 Greensburg Road, Buffalo, KY 42716.
