FRENCH, DOLORES (“DODY”) GRAVES, 83, passed from this life on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at Baptist East Hospital with her loving family by her side.
Born in Louisville, she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, a graduate of Atherton Girls High School and worked at Louisville Tube Turns, AT&T and Harding Pharmacy for a brief time. She was a long-time member of Walnut Street Baptist Church and later, Southeast Christian Church. She was involved in numerous Bible Studies and clubs including Christian Women’s Club, Baptist East Hospital Auxilliary and other volunteer opportunities. She loved to read, spend time with her friends and family and travel.
Dody is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mini Myrtle Graves, two brothers, Joseph and Lawrence Graves and two sisters, Gladys Adams and Betty Compton.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Joseph W. “Bill” French; one son, Dr. William S. “Bill” (Leslie) French; four daughters, Janis (Joe) Wefer, Cindy (Mike) Kleier, Cheryl (Steve) Robinson and Becky (Eddie) Carter; nine grandchildren, Brian Dembek, Jessica Robinson, Josh Dembek, Matt Robinson, Lauren French, Courtney Carter, David French, Scott French, Chase Carter; and one great-grandchild, Todd Williams along with numerous nieces and nephews. Special thank you to her devoted caregivers, Trenia Edwards and Brenda Scrogham.
A celebration of Dody’s life will be held on Monday at 11 am at Highlands Family- Owned Funeral Home, 3331Taylorsville Road, with interment to follow in Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12-6 pm on Sunday at Highlands.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Salvation Army.
